Beacon is committed to creating a sustainable future. We recognise the importance of our planet's health and are dedicated to making responsible choices that respect and protect our environment.
To guide ourselves towards a sustainable future we have agreed a set of environmental principles. We will:
- Comply with all applicable legal and other environmental requirements.
- Promote environmental responsibility and seek to improve environmental performance.
- Seek to minimise our production of waste and recycle our waste, as practically possible.
- Seek to promote energy efficiency and to reduce our CO2 emissions, as far as practically possible.
- Look to increase awareness of the impacts of environmental issues with employees.
- Undertake annual reviews of progress.
Examples of efforts that we have already made to apply these principles:
- Chosen an office that was constructed sustainably to the highest energy efficiency standards ("Excellent" BREEAM Rating)
- Employed office cleaners who use ethical cleaning products with a commitment to net zero (more)
- Commit to significant carbon offsetting and planting trees (more)
- Ensured that our data infrastructure runs on a platform (AWS) that is committed to carbon neutrality and sustainable energy. AWS is on a path to powering their operations with 100% renewable energy by 2025 and is committed to reaching net-zero carbon emissions by 2040. In 2022, 90% of the electricity consumed by Amazon was attributable to renewable energy sources (more info here)
- Ensuring that all applicable waste is recycled and bins are provided, including composting bins
We actively seek out opportunities to demonstrate our environmental principles in the choices we make and the way we conduct ourselves. This policy is approved by the Beacon board of directors and is due for review in May 2025.
